Homecoming

Homecoming 2011 - "The Clash of the Tennesseans"

We hope you joined us for Homecoming!  It was a gorgeous weekend on campus with crisp, fall air and trees full of orange leaves.  What a great weekend for friends, fans, family, and alumni to come home to campus for a fall day of entertainment and fun and watching our Vols in the “Clash of the Tennesseans” with MTSU that evening.  Our Vols prevailed in that “clash!"

Homecoming brought the former UT Singers together for a reunion and to be entertained by the current Singers, W. J. Julian was dined and praised for his 50-year inVOLvement with the Pride of the Southland Band, many colleges hosted open doors for their alumni to return for a visit, and the Homecoming signature event, Party in the Park, was a success.  Balloon artists made Smokey balloon hats, faces were painted, Buddy’s BBQ was enjoyed, and orange and white Kettle Corn was a hit.  Head Men's Basketball Coach Cuonzo Martin spoke with the crowd about the upcoming basketball season, and UT Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek welcomed alumni and friends and family back to campus.  A deejay helped with the party atmosphere by spinning a lot of Rocky Top!

On Friday, the annual Homecoming Parade snaked through campus with student floats, the Pride of the Southland Band and cheerleaders, and the “Little Vol Walk”, in its second annual appearance, was comprised of 40 Little Vols, ages ten and under, marching in the parade with Junior Smokey.  Mintha Roach, President of the Knoxville campus Board of Directors, and her husband, Jon, rode in the parade along with Kim Cross, President of the UT Alumni Association and her husband, Bart.  Condredge Holloway, legendary quarterback of the Vols in the 70s, was the parade Grand Marshall and, along with his family, rode in the parade in a classic Corvette.  The parade was followed by Smokey’s Howl at Tom Black Track to set the atmosphere for the next day.
