As the first person in my family to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I didn’t know what to expect when I arrived on campus. As a senior, I look back in amazement at the incredible opportunities I have had here. So many of these experiences were made possible by the generosity of alumni and friends of the university who chose to invest in my classmates and me.
My time in the UT College of Business Administration had a jump start when I was selected for the Global Leadership Scholars program (GLS) at the end of my freshmen year. Through this program, I had the opportunity to study and work in London, England, during my sophomore year. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and one I will never forget.
Through GLS, I developed an appetite to learn more about the global market and international business practices– in turn my Big Idea was born. As an accounting and international business major, studying abroad made me very interested in learning more about the tax process for American companies expanding overseas. What were the necessary steps for those companies as they moved towards an international business plan? I quickly learned there is very little research on the accounting principles and regulations necessary for this type of business expansion.
With the help of David Williams, assistant professor in the College of Business Administration, my Big Idea is becoming a reality as I pursue this area of research that is so fascinating to me. With all that I’ve learned and experienced at UT, I look forward to embarking upon a successful career.
Thank you for supporting the UT College of Business Administration and allowing students like me to explore our passions and Big Ideas. Your gift to the College of Business Administration will have a lifelong impact on students for years to come.
