When I first arrived at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I was like many other students, unsure of my major and what I would do after graduation. But a one-on-one conversation with my professor and mentor solidified my career path. As I experience my senior year in the College of Communication and Information, where I am majoring in advertising with business and theatre minors, I look back in amazement at the incredible opportunities made available to me at UT—many because of generous alumni and donors who chose to invest in my classmates and me.
A highlight of my UT experience was a life-changing trip to New York City that I took with several other advertising students. Because of that visit, and with the leadership and guidance of two of my professors —Dr. Courtney Childers and the late Dr. Margie Morrison—I narrowed my concentration to media production. I always had a passion for production, but I didn’t have the confidence to pursue my dream until one specific conversation with Dr. Morrison. I will never forget her words to me: “Everyone here at UT, including myself, are going to do everything we can to help you. We believe in everything you’re doing. Just don’t forget about us when you’re off doing something amazing.”
With Dr. Morrison’s encouragement, along with all that I’ve learned and experienced at UT, I am ready to embark on a successful career in media production.
Thank you for supporting the College of Communication and Information and the University of Tennessee, allowing students like me to explore our passions and Big Ideas for the future. Your gift to the college will have a lifelong effect on current and future students.
