While many students arrive at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville undecided on their major, I knew nursing was the only path for me. As I enter my junior year in the College of Nursing, I’m certain I made the right choice both in my major and university. I’m continually amazed at the incredible opportunities made available to me at UT — many because of generous alumni and donors who have chosen to invest in my classmates and me.

My interest in nursing began in a high school nursing class, but my experiences at UT have shown me time and again how I can combine a profession I love with my passion for mission work. I’ve been on multiple medical mission trips in the United States and Mexico and I am dedicated to serving people with needs who can’t afford assistance. UT also has given me the opportunity to serve closer to home as a volunteer with Clinic Vols, a public health service organization that provides first-aid and care to students in Knoxville’s inner city schools.

After earning my bachelor’s degree, I plan to enter a nurse practitioner master’s program and I hope to one day work in an emergency room, serving people in my local community. My time at UT has also inspired my Big Idea—to continue medical mission work each summer to aid underserved populations around the world.

Thank you for investing in the College of Nursing and the University of Tennessee, allowing students like me to explore our passions and Big Ideas for the future. Your gift to the college will have a lifelong effect on current and future students.
