The establishment of the new Alumni Awards Program
began in 2008 with the presentation of the first ever UT
Distinguished Alumnus Award to Chad Holliday, then CEO and Chairman
of Dupont. In 2009, two new awards were established—the Alumni
Service Award and the Alumni
Promise Award—and in 2011, we added a fourth award, the Alumni
Professional Achievement Award.
The Alumni Board of Directors,
established in the spring of 2009, has formed an awards selection committee that is responsible for
the review and selection of the alumni awards each year.

Distinguished
Alumnus/a Award
Dedicated to the spirit of the Volunteer, the Distinguished
Alumnus/a award is the single highest alumni award given and is
reserved for alumni who have excelled at the national or international
level. The purpose of this award is to recognize an alumnus of The
University of Tennessee who has attained extraordinary distinction and
success in his/her field of endeavor, whose achievements have brought
credit to The University of Tennessee and benefit to his/her fellow
citizens. Up to four awards may be given in a year to living alumni. Up
to two awards may be given posthumously.

Alumni Service Award
The Alumni Service Award recognizes exceptional service or
long term continuing service or leadership to The University of
Tennessee. It is designed to publicly acknowledge those individuals or
organizations who have given significant amounts of time, talent or
resources to the university over an extended period of time.
Up to four Alumni Service Awards may be given each
year.

Alumni Promise Award

who have demonstrated distinctive achievement in a career, civic
involvement or both. This award is presented to acknowledge alumni who
are making a mark early on in their career.

Alumni Professional Achievement Award
Our newest award, the Alumni Professional
Achievement Award recognizes alumni who have achieved a high level of
success in their chosen field of endeavor. The trademark of this
recipient is a record of notable career accomplishments and a history of
outstanding contributions to their profession. The award is presented
